Trying to be healthy

So, lately I have been trying to be more healthy... its been a couple year process. I never really cared about exercising or eating well, but then a couple years ago it dawned on me how important it really is, so I've been trying ever since. Its really not easy, I feel good after I work out but the motivation to start is always hard to find. I have been doing so good lately with working out lately, I am moving on the the healthy eating category. This is where I need some help. Does anyone have some quick easy and healthy lunch or dinner ideas? Im getting sick of eating the same old thing everyday, I need something new!

My advice would be to just do your best to cook at home. Whatever it is. Even if you are eating Spaghettios or cold cereal for dinner, it's a ton better than going out for a hamburger or whatever.

Also, we love to grill stuff. It feels so much healthier when things come from the grill. :) It all just tastes so nice and fresh! (It may not be better for us in reality, but it feels better. ;))

I've been trying to buy more fresh fruits and veggies too. If you have it on hand, you are much more likely to cook it. Also, we've been trying to eat more baked potatoes instead of other types of potato options like mashed or roasted which both involve a lot of butter, etc.

Also, just don't buy sweets/treats. Buy the ingredients to make your own, though. That way if at some point you are craving a snack, it's not as easy and getting a pack of Oreos out of your cupboard--and if you REALLY want it, you have to go to the effort to make it. If you don't want to make it, you don't really want to eat it that badly. Of course baked treats are still bad for you, but no one is perfect!

Good luck, Ms. Healthy

So as I'm reading through your post I begin to feel super lazy and fat.. why? Because I was in the middle of enjoying my afternoon snack of dipping my iced oatmeal cookies into nutella and I had to laugh at the irony. I'm proud of you though!! But obviously I have no tips to share..
love you!

Hooray for being healthy! I don't know if I'm the right person to be commenting on this subject, but I'll put my 2 cents in, whatev. Besides, since I've been in England I've lost 5 lbs and I can only attribute it to one thing: these Brits eat good food.

They grow their vegetables in their garden, so there aren't pesticides or anything. Their fruit/meat/dairy/bread is all local and organic. They don't eat small portions, they just eat natural food.

So I guess my advice is to just avoid food that has been overly processed, freeze-dried, packed with preservatives, or is otherwise unhealthy. It's impossible to avoid it altogether - we've actually had a couple of meals that started as a box in the freezer - but overall I think just eating food that's naturally more in sync with your body makes it a lot less work for it to digest.

That's my take on the situation! But I really think you're a pretty healthy person as is. And you're the one who told me about the preservative thing to begin with, so you already know all this anyway. Good luck hon!
