Why I love Aggie Basketball....

Yesterday, the cougars came to visit the spectrum. 10,270 fans showed up and got into the game, with a couple thousand turned away. Most students showed up 3 or 4 hours before the game started and some as early as Tuesday morning. (well done Scott, you deserve the front row!)

The students that got in.... this was 30 minutes before the game started and all the seats were already taken.

I'll admit it, I'm not that into sports, but when it comes to Aggie basketball... nothing is better. Some may think the crowd is over the top and flat out rude, but the chants, cheering, and taunting of the other team is what gives being part of the student section its energy. Everyone is in unison. Everyone (for the most part) is in blue, and Its always packed.

When introducing the other team... the student section all turn around..
but their signs were all still shown.

Here are some of my favorite chants:

Number FIVE
When we are up by a significant amount:
"up by 20" or "up by 30"

Number FOUR
When someone from our team shoots a free throw everyone puts their hands in the air and it is quiet. When they make the shot everyones hands go down and the crowd says "whoosh"

everyone with their hands up, right before the 'whoosh'

Number THREE
when a player from the other team shoots an airball, for the rest of the game whenever that player has the ball the crowd chants "airball" at them in unison

Number TWO
When a player fowls out the crowd chants
"left" when he takes a step with his left foot "right" when he steps on his right, and continues to chant this even when they just shift their weight back and forth until they finally sit down and the cheering erupts.

Number ONE
select few students pointing at the jumbo tron: "
is that not a score board",
rest of the crowd
pointing at the jumbo tron: "Yes that is a score board"
select few students: "i
s that not a 70",
rest of the crowd: "
Yes that is a 70"
select few students: "
is that not a 55",
rest of the crowd: "
Yes that is a 55"
select few students pointing at utah states team:
"
is that not the winning team",
rest of the crowd: "
Yes that is the winning team"
select few students pointing at other team:
"
is that not the losing team",
rest of the crowd: "
Yes that is the losing team"
Everyone pointing at utah state: "
Winning team"
Everyone pointing at other team: "losing team"
Again, again, and again.

"winning team, losing team, winning team, losing team."

student section 'herding' the cows.

I just have to throw this picture into the mix... because if you dont love the scotsman song, you are not a true aggie. There is nothing better than a stadium full of students 'herding' and 'milking' cows to a song that goes:

"show me the scotsman who doesnt love the thistle,
show me an englishman who doesnt love the rose,
show me a true blooded aggie from utah,
who doesnt love the spot
'clap' 'clap'
where the SAGE-BRUSH-GROWS"

*I stole all the photos (except the first one) from an album i found on facebook... so i'm giving credit to todd jones.... whoever he is!
